I was thinking about words I really don't like to hear.
There are words on this page that may be offensive to some people - you have been warned.
Here is my list of disgusting words:
'P' words - pompous, prompt, polyps, pap, pus, pumpkin, pustule
Luncheon - I don't get it...just call it 'lunch'. Adding the -eon isn't going to make it sound better.
Sublime - It's the new 'amazing' - subllllllime
Nibblies/Nibbles - yuck
Drinky poos - yuck again. Come over to my place for nibblies and drinky poos. Ugh.
Moist - I know that I am not alone with this disliking this one. In fact, 'moist' and 'panties' were the most hated words quoted on my Facebook and Twitter.
Panties - Reminds me of something a perverted old man would say.
Crisps - It sounds like you are whistling when you say it (you just tried it, didn't you).
Surreal - Overused.
Napkin - It never sounds right and makes me cringe.
I asked people on my Facebook and Twitter what words they dislike:
Madam - I hate being called 'madam' by service providers. Makes me feel old, and like I run a brothel (Trish)
Poop - For goodness sake just say shit and 'genre', when people say 'johhhn-ra'. Also superb and juxtaposition, intercourse, bowel movement and front and back passage.......to where? Also when people say 'sweet as', 'cool as' etc (Dee)
C%*t - The "c" word makes me cringe. Just loathe it! (Debby)
Cripple - I hate it. I wish I could burn it (Priscilla)
Fanny - I just hate it, also 'sniff'' and 'brassiere' (Selina)
Lavatory - (Susan)
Toilet - When people ask where the toilet is rather than bathroom.... annoys me (Raphaelle)
Brolly - It's an umbrella. Oh, and 'reckon' (Karen)
Yeast - Also titties (Tom)
Dogmatic - Also susceptible, communicable, c*nt, prick, champ, cheers, mate (Ashley)
Frock - (Stephanie)
Vaseline - It always sounds like a perverted word now. Especially when you shorten it to Vaso (Jason)
Beverage - That reeeeeeally ticks me off for some reason! (Charmaine)
Slacks - (Zafira)
Agreeance - (when people use it instead of agreement), I also have a love hate relationship with the word imbue - it can sound horribly pretentious! (Yvette)
Pussy - (Lee)
Cardigan - Sounds so old! Jumper is the word of choice. Also hate when people use the word 'choice' (Jane)
Chowder - Flaps and strides (Danielle)
Utilise - Just use it! Also, muck, pus, bosom, awesome and hectic - which is misused by so many nieces and nephews (Lorraine)
Tell me what words make you cringe?
